What is occupational therapy?
An Occupational Therapist is a health care professional who works with people to help them achieve what they want to do, and need to do, to lead satisfying and productive lives. The work of an OT focuses on decreasing the impact of disability and enhancing quality of life.
When a child is experiencing difficulty with daily tasks such as play, self care or school activities, an OT will work with the child and family to help the child improve their performance.
In collaboration with the family and the health care team, OTs assess a child’s level of function. A treatment plan is then developed to address identified difficulties.
